OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Following a district championship last week with a two-game sweep of Hennessey, the Alva Goldbugs learned their fate for the Regional round when the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association released the regional brackets on Monday.
All games were pushed by a day due to rain that moved into the Oklahoma City metro area late Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
The Goldbugs, who enter the round with a record of 22-12, are matched up with No. 9 Atoka in the opening game on Friday at 1 p.m. at Oklahoma Christian School in Edmond. The Wampus Cats are 22-5 this season with four of their losses this season coming against Top 20 teams.
Alva is in the midst of a six-game winning streak, its longest winner streak since winning six in a row in early March of last season. The Bugs have not won seven straight contests since doing so in the 2014 season.
The Goldbugs last made a regional appearance in 2016.
