DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern got off to a rough start at the Great American Conference Tournament on Wednesday morning, suffering from four unearned runs as Harding put up five runs in the second inning en route to an 8-1 Savage Storm loss in the first round matchup in Bentonville, Ark.
The loss moves SE to 33-22 overall on the year and sets up an elimination game matchup at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning against the loser of the Arkansas Tech versus Ouachita Baptist contest.
Elexis Watson finished the contest with a pair of hits to lead the offense, while Symphoni Shomo, Destiny Riddle, and Keeshia Thompson added a hit apiece.
Kelsey Meeks got the start and took the loss after tossing 5.1 innings and allowing seven runs, three of the earned, on nine hits with two strikeouts.
Riddle tossed an inning in relief and allowed a run on two hits, while Emily Cudd tossed two-thirds of an inning and allowed a walk.
The Storm fell behind 5-0 when the Bisons put up five runs in the second inning, four of them unearned.
That expanded to 6-0 in the top of the fourth before SE found an answer as Riddle scored on an HU error to make the score 6-1.
Harding tacked on a run in the fifth and another in the top of the seventh and Southeastern was unable to find an answer, falling 8-1 in the opening round.
