ECU Softball Sees Seven Earn All-GAC Honors

BENTONVILLE, ARK. – On the first day of the 2018 Great American Conference Championship Tournament, the East Central University softball team saw seven players earn All-GAC honors.

The Tigers were represented by sophomore Catherine Barrera (3B) on the second team, freshman Jacey Henry (P), senior Alissa Taylor (1B), junior Mariah Ewy (SS) and senior Claresha Clemons (OF) as honorable mentions and juniors Breecia Crawford and Mariah Ewy as a GAC Elite Scholar-Athlete.

The Elite Scholar-Athlete honor is given to those participating in the GAC Tournament with the highest GPA and with at least 70 hours completed.

Barrera has led ECU at the plate in 2018, earning a .396 batting average, 27 runs, 55 hits, seven doubles, two triples, three home runs and 15 RBIs. She is ranked third in the GAC in batting average and fourth in triples.

Henry has made a name for herself as an all-around player in her debut season. She has earned a .339 batting average, 43 hits, eight doubles, five home runs and 25 RBIs at the plate. The Marietta, Okla., native adds a 1.000 fielding percentage, with 39 put outs, 36 assisted outs and no errors.

Henry is also a threat in the circle, earning the most time this season for the Tigers at 90.2 innings. She has a 3.63 ERA, 5-8 record, six complete games, two saves, 102 hits, 60 runs allowed (47 earned), 44 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .285.

Taylor adds a .367 average, 31 runs, 65 hits, nine doubles, one triple seven home runs and 37 RBIs. Ewy finished the regular season with a .303 average, 30 hits, 17 runs and 16 RBIs. Clemons hit .297 on the year, with 44 hits, 28 runs and 35 RBIs.

Crawford earns the GAC Elite Scholar-Athlete honor for the second-straight season, with a 4.0 GPA in physics. Ewy earns her first Elite Scholar-Athlete honor with a 4.0 GPA in biology.

The Tigers will open the 2018 GAC Championships, Tuesday, May 2 at 3:30 p.m. against No. 7 Southern Arkansas at Tiger Athletic Complex in Bentonville, Ark.
