RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Julia Schoch has been named the Great American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Schoch, a freshman from Montreal, Canada, helped the Golden Suns to a 2-1 record over the past week, including a 7-2 victory over SNU in Tech's first dual of the GAC season. Against the Crimson Storm, Schoch combined with Harris for a 9-7 victory in doubles and followed with a two-set win in the No. 3 singles match.
Arkansas Tech followed its first win in conference play with a 5-3 decision over Northwest Missouri on Sunday. Schoch and Harris gave the Suns a 2-1 lead with an 8-5 win in doubles, and she later gave Tech its fourth point of the dual with a 6-1; 6-3 win in singles.
Against No. 34 West Alabama on Tuesday, Schoch and Harris earned their fourth consecutive doubles win, before a three-set loss at No. 3 singles snapped Schoch's six-match unbeaten streak.
Schoch is the third Golden Sun to earn the weekly conference honor this season. She and the Suns return to the court on Thursday, March 22, as Tech faces No. 2 West Florida at 10 a.m.
