SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist split a pair of games with Southern Arkansas in a key Great American Conference doubleheader Friday.
SAU won the opener 5-2 before Zach Fowler shut out the Muleriders 1-0.
The teams meet in the series finale at 1 p.m., Saturday.
Albertus Barber (4-1) struck out 11 batters and allowed five runs, four earned, over 7.2 innings. Caleb Bly tossed 1.1 innings with no hits and two strikeouts.
Brett Berghammer homered in the first inning to tie the game at 1-1, but SAU built a 3-1 lead. Berghammer grounded out to score PJ Harris in the seventh for the only other OBU run.
OBU had five hits, including a Brock Carter double.
Fowler was dominating in the second game, striking out 12 in the complete-game performance. He scattered three singles and walked two.
The Bison got the only run they needed in the second inning when Harris ripped a solo home run. OBU had three hits in the game.
With the split, both teams are now 6-2 in the GAC, 1.5 games behind Arkansas-Monticello and a half game back of Southwestern.
