ALVA, Okla. - After a quality season on the course for both Northwestern Oklahoma State cross country teams, they also did very well in the classroom as they made it on the list for NCAA DII All-Academic honors.
Overall there were 276 teams - 157 women's and 119 men's teams that picked up All-Academic honors and both Ranger squads were on their respective lists.
The Ranger men finished up the fall semester with a 3.04 GPA and had a lot of quality outings on the course as well. For most of the fall season, they were knocking on the door of records and at the Fort Hays State Open, Clayton Fletcher finally broke it as he surpassed coach Sterlin Broomfield for the fastest 8k time in school history with a time of 27:02.3. The squad finished 6th at the conference meet this past fall and made significant strides from previous seasons.
Not only did the men have a good fall, but so did the women as they worked hard in the classroom, earning themselves a 3.03 GPA and All-Academic honors as well.
The women were paced by Kayla Gourley for much of the season, and was followed by a host of young talent. They will be looking to build on their 9th place finish at the GAC conference meet in the upcoming fall season.
Coach Jill Lancaster was very pleased about both of her team's making the list for the academic honors.
"What a huge accomplishment for both our men's and women's cross country programs," Lancaster said. "This was truly a team effort and we discussed it as one of our goals going into the season. Achievement is a way of life and we as a team approach our personal, academic and athletic goals with high standards. Our teams' dedication earned them this impressive honor."
