The Alfalfa County Board of Commissioners met Monday morning in the regular meeting. All commissioners were present, as well as Nancy Lambert, Laneta Unruh, Shana Smallwood Emergency Manager, Tommy Puffinburger of OSU extension, Rob Sims of the Aline Fire Department, Jon Nichols of the Goltry Fire Department, 911 Supervisor Sarah Wagner, Cotton Castle of the Jet Fire Department and Kevin Irwin of the Carmen Fire Department. After the call to order, Lambert gave the invocation and flag salute.
An agenda item to expand the Goltry Fire Station Building was approved.
The countywide burn ban was extended to Jan. 2, 2018.
The minutes from the previous meeting, along with the M&O warrants, safety Incentive warrants, road crossing permits, and the blanket purchase orders were approved by the commissioners.
The OSU extension contract was approved. The appointment of Merry Gaff to the EMS Board was renewed for a five-year term beginning in 2018.
The commissioners discussed and approved an extension of the burn ban for Alfalfa County through Jan. 2, 2018. The burn ban will continue to be in effect, after which time the commissioners will discuss the ban again to decide if it should continue. Remember: under the ban, residents of Alfalfa County cannot set fire to grasslands or crops, build a bonfire/campfire, burn trash or set off fireworks. Exceptions to the ban include using an LPG or natural gas outside grill, and welding, cutting or torching, as long as all the above are done on a non-flammable surface, away from flammable vegetation. Welding, cutting or torching is also only allowed if the wind speeds are less than 20 mph, and if there is a fire watchman appointed (other than the welder), with pressurized water or a fire extinguisher at the ready.
The E911 board submitted changes in its bylaws for approval to the commissioners for review.
The commissioners approved the county pay $616 expenses for cremation of a resident of the county. Private property access easements were approved for NE 1/4 of 19-24-12 to remove trees and pile on owner's land and SE 1/4 of 8-25-11 to clean out waterway.
Unforeseen business was brought to the commissioner's attention by Valerie Vetter, County Treasurer Alfalfa County. The Oklahoma Tax Commission had received an overpayment of $17,941 from Chesapeake Energy. This will cause an adjustment of $1794.10 from the county to be paid over the next 10 months from the use tax.
After a motion to adjourn was approved, the meeting was closed.
