WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Men's Basketball led Panhandle State by as many as 12 with 12:21 remaining in the second half, but the Aggies inched their way back and eventually won the game on a desperation deep three point shot as time expired – handing the Bulldogs an 84-83 loss on their home court.
Leading 83-82 with nine seconds left in the game, Charles Beauregard, Jr. was fouled and put on the free throw line with a chance to push their margin to three points and avoid any heart break on a single possession. Beauregard sunk his first making it 83-81, but missed the mark on his second which sent the Aggies into a scramble as the clock began to run.
After crossing half court, OPSU's ball handler made a risky cross court pass that was nearly grabbed by the SWOSU defense. But after the ball was tipped high into the air, it ended up in Jaedon Whitfield's possession far beyond the three point line. The Aggie forward turned toward the basket and started his shot fading left to avoid the defense and as time expired the shot rattled in, giving Panhandle State the win.
The Bulldogs had double figure scoring efforts from four different players, including both Justin King (16) and Luke Lewallen (10) off of the bench. Charles Beauregard, Jr. was the high scorer, tallying 20 points and a double-double with a team best 12 rebounds while also leading the way in the assists category with seven. Devin Pugh scored 14 from the starting lineup.
SWOSU (2-7) will have more than three weeks off before playing another game, taking a break from competition for Christmas Break. The Bulldogs will welcome non-conference opponent Randall to Weatherford on December 30th following the time off.
