ALVA, Okla. – A balanced scoring attack that stemmed from increased defensive pressure in the second half allowed the Northwestern Oklahoma State women's basketball team to pull away from Tabor College and win their fourth consecutive game by a final score of 84-55.
The Lady Rangers netted 30 points off of turnovers in the second half alone as they outscored Tabor 47-25 in the second half of action. Northwestern forced a season-high 26 turnovers throughout the game while leading by as many as 32 in the second half.
Four different players scored their way into double figures for the Black and Red on an afternoon in which the Lady Rangers shot 45.9 percent (28-for-61) from the field. Junior Jade Jones put down 17 points in the first half on her way to totaling 21 total points for the contest while also recording a team-high five assists and three rebounds. The trio of Selena McDonald, Bailey Brown and Amani Davis provided the offensive support as well, each scoring 11 points as 10 different Lady Rangers put points on the board.
A 9-2 run during the final 2:38 of the first half pushed Northwestern ahead heading into the halftime break after taking a while to get in a rhythm on the defensive side of the ball as the Blue Jays made 8-of-15 shots in the first quarter, but were held to 11-for-34 from the field for the remainder of the contest as the Lady Rangers began to build their lead.
A 14-4 run to close out the final five minutes of the third quarter finally gave them the cushion they needed to cruise their way in to a fourth consecutive victory, posting a quarter-high total of 25 points in the final frame.
Northwestern amassed a grand total of 42 points in the paint as they continually gave the Blue Jays fits under the glass, out-rebounding them in the end by a final of 40-to-29. McDonald led the way with six boards while Brown and freshman Kinsey Neiderer both chipped in five a piece.
The Lady Rangers will enjoy the recent stretch of success for a few days before preparing to hit the road for their first road conference series of the year with games against Harding and Arkansas Tech. The Bison and Golden Suns finished first and second in the regular season conference standings a year ago and will provide a stiff test for head coach Tasha Diesselhorst's squad.
Those conference showdowns are set for Nov. 30 at Harding and Dec. 2 at Arkansas Tech, with tip offs scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.
