WACO, Texas – Rogers State women's soccer goalkeeper Taylor Sargent was named the Heartland Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the Heartland Conference on Monday. Sargent garnered the award for the third straight week.
The product of The Colony, Texas, Sargent posted two shutouts during the week to bring her total to four-straight shutouts on the season. The junior has a current streak of 389 minutes without allowing a goal. Sargent started the week with five saves in 110 minutes at Lubbock Christian in a 0-0 double overtime draw. She added six saves in 90 minutes at Oklahoma Christian on Saturday as the Hillcats cruised to a 6-0 victory.
For the season, Sargent has tallied 11 shutouts and allowed only eight goals, going 13-3-2 overall. The 11 shutouts are a school record and ranks No. 1 in the Heartland Conference. She has a conference-high .899 save percentage that ranks seventh in NCAA Division II. Her 0.432 goals against average is second in the league and 10th in the country.
The Hillcats play in the Heartland Conference Tournament for the first time in program history this Thursday against No. 3-seeded St. Edward's at 4 p.m. in Dallas, Texas. RSU finished third in the Heartland Conference standings after one of the biggest single-season turnarounds in conference history with a record of 9-3-2 and 29 points this season. The Cats went 13-3-2 overall.
