On Saturday, Nov. 4, Alva scouts will canvass the town collecting food for the Harvest Food Drive. The food the scouts collect will be used to fill the holiday baskets given to families less fortunate and in need of some help this holiday season. All food collected stays locally.
Any nonperishable food item is acceptable. The shelves are bare at the food bank and are in desperate need of your help. The scouts ask for unopened and in-date food, especially holiday foods such as pumpkin pie mix, cranberry sauce, stuffing, potatoes, jellos, puddings, soups, fruits, vegetables and French fried onions. There is also a need for paper towels, toilet paper, laundry soap, dish soap and hygiene items. Everything is needed and can be used.
The scouts will be going door to door collecting donations. You can also leave your donation on your porch marked for the scouts. If you are missed, call Judy Neilson at 580-829-1640 and she will pick them up. You can also give a monetary donation directly to the Wesleyan Church Food Pantry or through the Bank-It Program at the local banks. If you are unable to donate on Nov. 4 and still wish to help out, you can take your donation directly to the food pantry at 818 Lane or call 580-327-2636 for any questions.
The scouts will be rewarded with a hot dog feed for their community service efforts.
