Patchwork Friends OHCE group learns about Oklahoma products

The Patchwork Friends OHCE group met for their regular meeting on Sept. 14 at the home of Dee Mason. Joanne Prewett called the meeting to order. Dottie Gatz led the group in the flag salute. Devotions were given by the hostess from a devotional calendar. Roll call was answered by six members and two guests to “What do you know about Oklahoma products?” Answering were Prewett, Gatz, Mason, Janice Litton, Liz Kinzie, Aleta Nolan and guests Karol Ruwald and Mary Barker. Minutes of the August meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was given and Pennies & Nickels and Dimes were collected.

Patchwork Friends received third place in the group booth. The group placed first in the sewing exhibits and second place in cultural arts. The Northwestern Art Society members assisted the group in the fair kitchen on Thursday and were invaluable help.

Election of officers resulted in keeping the same officers from 2017. Officers are Joanne Prewett, president; Barbara Cue, vice president; Dottie Gatz, secretary; and Dee Mason, treasurer. Membership papers were filled out and dues were paid for 2018.

The lesson on “Made in Oklahoma” was given by Gatz. She gave each person a handout along with recipe. She displayed a bottle of Head County barbecue sauce and said that Susan Holliday cooked barbecue ribs in a slow cooker at the leader's lesson. This is just one of the many products that are made in Oklahoma. One of our favorites was Brahms.

Gatz also gave a mini lesson how to easily smash a gallon milk container by putting it in the microwave for 30 seconds and then smashing it.

The meeting adjourned and Aaron Mason served a cherry dessert to the group. Aleta Nolan and Mary Barker won door prizes.

The next meeting of the Patchwork Friends will be at the home of Liz Kinzie on Oct. 12.
