The Alva High School Ladybugs made a comeback in the third to take the lead, but a fourth-inning rally from Enid gave Alva the 2-5 loss.
The Ladybugs got the early jump on Enid in the bottom of the second as they started the inning with Hannah O’Neil at the plate taking four straight balls for a walk. Laney Stewart followed that with a sacrifice bunt that positioned O’Neil on third, providing Enid its first big danger of the game.
With one out, and a runner on third, Gretchen Kraft hit a ground out to third base to plate O’Neil across home for the first run of the game.
However, Enid answered right back in the top of the third, though it looked like the inning would be a quick one as Alva picked up two quick outs. After dropping their first two hitters of the inning, Enid answered with three straight hits to plate their first runner for the tie off a hard ground ball to center field.
With the game tied at 1-1, Alva started the bottom-half of the inning with a hard ground ball from Karson Henke for a double. Though Henke was later thrown out trying to take third, Aspen Warren was plated across home after tagging up on a fly-out from Bianca Ruiz to left field for the 2-1 lead.
Unfortunately, that was Alva’s final run of the game, as Enid took control in the top of the fourth with a three-run inning to put the Ladybugs behind 2-4. Enid scored their final run in the fifth to get the 2-5 win over Alva.
