10 Rangers to Watch Series: Kalea King

The Northwestern Oklahoma State Athletic Department has been announcing ten Rangers throughout the summer that Ranger fans can expect to make direct impacts on their team's success. These athletes are leaders for their respective sports and will be looking to contribute to the rise of Northwestern Athletics during the 2017-2018 school year.

Junior Kalea King rebounded from a frustrating sophomore campaign two season ago in which injuries kept her off the court for the majority of the season and played her way into a Second-Team All-Great American Conference selection. The 2014-15 Freshman of the Year in the conference finished the year second in the league in scoring (16.2 ppg) and finished in the top 15 in the league with 1.4 steals per game.

King led the team in multiple categories including points, field goal attempts (350), field goals made (139), and assists (70). Her presence as a top scoring threat in the conference was felt immediately as she fit in perfectly in head coach Tasha Diesselhorst's guard oriented offensive attack.

King's best game of the year took place back on Dec. 3 in a 69-55 victory over Arkansas-Monticello during which she dropped 27 points and totaled seven rebounds. King scored 20 or more points 10 times last season, showing her ability to score consistently even as opposing team's game planned around defending her.

"I was extremely proud of Kalea and her growth throughout our season last year and she really bought into the things we are trying to build our program on," coach Diesselhorst said. "She drew a lot of attention from opposing defenses and still managed to help our team in several categories each night."

King will continue to be a major factor as the Lady Rangers move into the 2017-18 season hungry for the program's first berth in the GAC conference tournament at the end of the season. Many new faces figure to see major court time as coach Diesselhorst looks to continue to improve her team as they did all throughout last season.

"Looking towards the 2017-2018 season, Kalea will continue to be a major key to our success," coach Diesselhorst said. "I am expecting even bigger things from her this upcoming year."
