Buckles home awarded Yard of the Month

The Alva Garden Council, consisting of the Tulip and Petunia garden clubs, is excited to announce that Bill and Billie Buckles' home has been selected as the Yard of the Month. Their home is located at 64 Myers Dr. in the Cedars Addition.

Their lovely home is accented with Dwarf Horstmann Blue Atlas cedars at each corner in the front of the home, as well as Allee Lace Bark elms on each far side of the front yard. Complementary stones add an attractive design to the landscape of Royal Purple smoke trees on each corner of the area by the street. Greenery accents the stones. On the west side of the house, Oregon Green Austrian pine trees define this space.

The northwest corner of the house displays vicosa bushes, which are small and very fragrant. The vitex bush has graceful, long spikes and flowers late in summer.

On the north side of the house, a berm accented by pampas grass and crepe myrtles sets the stage for the cattle on the other side of the fence that love to graze and rest under the shade tree. It's an Oklahoma western scene with the cattle, and the attractive rolling hills of Alva in the background with all of the greenery painting a serene scene for a peaceful viewing of nature. Also on the north viewing from the big picture window, blooming hostas and a Japanese Green Lace maple can be seen to completing this beautiful, breathtaking view.

A variety of decorative bushes and flowers surround the house in very strategic complementary places adorned by red cedar mulch. This variety consists of crepe myrtle, Red Drift roses, Knock Out roses, Aloha cone flowers (yellow with dark brown centers), day lilies, Stella Surplus day lilies, lavendar, persalane moss and hostas.
