Don't miss Pioneer Days in Kiowa this weekend

• Bob Hays is parade marshal

If you're ready for ropin', steer wrestin', a parade, entertainment, dancin' and some old fashioned fun, be in Kiowa, Kansas, this weekend.

Mosey up to Progress Park early Friday evening for a grilled burger and certain-to-be-pioneer-themed entertainment.

Plan on spending the morning in downtown Kiowa. Start with a hearty breakfast at the Masonic Lodge. Then drop by the Historical Society Bake Sale at the Chief Theater. See Kiowa's Historical Museum that will be open in the morning and afternoon.

Don't miss dropping into Jamie Terwort's Art Studio on Main Street and seeing what her students created.

Get ready for the parade at 11 a.m. “Mr. Kiowa Chamber of Commerce President forever and ever” Bob Hays will be parade marshal. Afterward, get ready for some fun and wacky pioneer-themed entertainment in a skit written by Donna Williams. There will undoubtedly be lots of whoopin' and hollerin'. Enjoy a pulled pork sandwich and a roasted ear of corn served by the Barber County Shriners.

Then head out to Miller's Arena on the southeast corner of town to watch cowboys compete in the steer wrestling at 1 p.m. Then go again Sunday afternoon to watch team roping.
