Burlington mentoring continues

Burlington's student council started the mentoring program about four years ago. Being a small school, they thought that it would be a good idea to start this mentoring program to strengthen the students' reading levels and comprehension, and to build a bond between the elementary, junior high and high school students.

Every Wednesday, high school and junior high students meet one on one with elementary students for 20 minutes to read together. There are 47 junior high and high school students who volunteered to mentor younger students in reading this year. They are mentoring 42 elementary students in the third through fifth grades.

Teachers at Burlington are very pleased with how well the students get along.

Junior high and high school students are looking forward to seeing their young readers excel throughout the rest of the school year.
