Hagood, Nordyke shine in circle in split at Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Feb. 21, 2017) – Madison Hagood and Madison Nordyke each pitched a two-hitter for Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday, but the Lady Eagles came away with just a split of a softball doubleheader at Midwestern State (Texas).

Hagood threw a shutout to lift the Lady Eagles to a 3-0 win in the first game at Mustangs Park, but OC fell 3-2 in the second game despite an outstanding performance by Nordyke in which she flirted with a perfect game.

In the opener, Hagood (3-2) outdueled Midwestern State's Erin Knox (3-3). The OC left-hander retired the Mustangs' first 13 batters before surrendering a pair of singles in the fifth inning, but escaped that jam to preserve her shutout.

OC (8-6) finally broke through in the seventh inning. With one out, Bridget White singled down the left-field line off Knox, and Kayla Eichler followed with a single to center field, sending White to third base. Eichler then stole second base before Kaylie Upton's infield single scored White. Caitlin Young walked to load the bases and Sheridan Bond delivered a two-run double to left-center field, making it 3-0.

Hagood retired Midwestern State (9-8) in order in the bottom of the seventh to finish the shutout.

In the second game, OC picked up unearned runs in the third and sixth innings, taking advantage of the Mustangs' three errors.

Meanwhile, Nordyke – who earlier in the day was named as the Heartland Conference pitcher of the week – retired Midwestern State's first 16 batters before Hannah Springs hit a solo home run over the left-field fence with one out in the sixth inning. Nordyke (3-3) then walked Taylor Brintzenhoff before Lauren Lindgren homered down the left-field line to put the Mustangs ahead 3-2.

Midwestern State pitcher Peyton Helton (4-3) retired the Lady Eagles in order in the top of the seventh.

After playing their first 14 games away from home, the Lady Eagles will host No. 12-ranked Central Oklahoma on Saturday. The doubleheader will start at 2 p.m.
