WACO, Texas – Junior outfielder Bradley Degnan was named the Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week after a record-breaking game against Randall, announced on Tuesday (Feb. 7) by the Heartland Conference.
Degnan, a junior from Woodside, Calif., had a scorching start to the 2017 season, setting a school record with eight RBI in a dominating win over Randall. The outfielder went 3-for-5 with an RBI triple, a three-run home run and a grand slam home run. Degnan hit a home run in each of the four games during the week, totaling five long balls. He finished with 12 hits, three doubles, one triple and five home runs while hitting .632 and slugging 1.684. This is Degnan's first player of the week honor.
During the opening week, RSU went 4-0, averaging 15 runs in the victories. The navy and red pitching staff was just as strong, starting the season with 24 scoreless innings before allowing two runs in the final game of the week.
The Hillcats continue their eight-game homestand to start the season with a three-game series against Colorado Christian, starting with one game on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Diamond Sports Complex. The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
