Few candidates file for city offices so far

Only a few candidates have filed so far for the Oklahoma municipal election on April 4. The filing period began Monday at 8 a.m. and continues today, Feb. 8, until 5 p.m. at the county election board offices.

Alfalfa County has had five candidates file as of 1:30 p.m. They are:

• Cherokee Commissioner at Large (Mayor): Karen Hawkins

• Cherokee Ward 1 Commissioner: Michael Lee West

• Burlington Board of Trustees: Jack Davis

• Carmen Board of Trustees: Chris Moore

• Helena Board of Trustees: Paula Burkes

Burlington has only one trustee position open. Both Carmen and Helena have two.

Woods County Election Board, located in the Professional Building in Alva, had six filings by 5 p.m. p.m. Tuesday:

• Alva City Treasurer: Trent Goss

• Alva City Council, Ward 1 Seat 1: Daniel Winters

• Alva City Council, Ward 2 Seat 1: Christopher Eckhardt

• Alva City Council, Ward 3 Seat 1: Troy Brooks

• Waynoka City Council, Ward 1 Seat 1 (unexpired term): Harold R. Oliver

• Waynoka City Council, Ward 3 Seat 2: Brad Perot

Only two Alva City Council seats are not available for filing. Six positions will be open. During this filing period, Seat 1 in each of the four wards in Alva will be open. Due to a delay in paperwork approval, two other Alva council positions will be open for filing next week, Feb. 13-15. Those are Ward 2 Seat 2 and Ward 3 Seat 2.
