Aldridge delivers mail for 26 years

For more than a quarter century, Richard Aldridge of Manchester has faithfully delivered the United States mail. After 26 years as a rural carrier, on Tuesday, Jan. 31, he retired. The Alva Post Office honored the occasion with a come and go reception Jan. 31 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. His wife, Barbie, and daughters, Brooke and Blair, were there to help him celebrate.

Aldridge was first hired as a substitute carrier for a rural route out of the Burlington Post Office. Phyllis Otis was postmaster. He worked four years as a substitute before taking over the route full time.

The Burlington/Byron route serves 150 customers, and Aldridge drove approximately 115 miles each day to deliver their mail. He received a letter of congratulations from District Manager Julie Gosdin for his dedicated service of 26 years.
