DURANT, Okla. — Southern Nazarene finished the Southeastern Regional Tournament with a split, losing to Pittsburg State 3-0 and beating Texas A&M International 11-8.
In the first game against Pittsburg State Mahina Sauer took the loss. Sauer pitched 4.2 innings, giving up six hits, three earned runs, and three walks, while striking out three. Brooke Tate pitched in relief, going 2.1 shutout innings, while walking one and striking one out.
Southern Nazarene allowed a homerun in the fourth and two more runs came across in the fifth to give the Gorillas their three runs and a 3-0 win.
In the later game, the Storm came away with a 11-8 victory. SNU struck first as they were able to score three runs in the top of first. Sam Smith walked, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on an RBI single by Kai Sanchez. Amy Reynolds singled with one out to move Sanchez over to second. Then after Reiana Reeves pinch ran for Reynolds, Martin singled with two outs, scoring Sanchez and advancing Reeves to second. Reeves later scored on an error by the short stop.
TAMIU got two runs back in the bottom of the first to put the score at 3-2 at the end of the first inning.
The Storm had a big fourth inning, as they were able to score four runs with two outs. Kriston Shumaker drew a walk, Sanchez singled to left field, Katelyn Brown walked to load the bases, then Reynolds walk, which scored Shumaker. Mahina Sauer then had a base clearing double to put the score at 7-2 going into the bottom of the fourth.
Texas A&M International got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI single and an RBI double to put the score at 7-4 going into the fifth.
Hannah Lebeau led the fifth inning off with a double and then was able to advance to third after Freer-Christopher hit a one out single. Sam Smith then hit a two RBI double to put the score at 9-4. Sanchez laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Smith to push the score to 10-4 going into the bottom of the fifth.
The Dustdevils got four runs back in the bottom of the sixth to put the score at 10-8 going into the top of the seventh.
The Storm got one more run in the seventh after Shumaker was able to score after a throwing error by the third baseman.
Katelyn Brown got the win for the Storm as she was able to pitch 5.1 innings, while giving up six hits, seven runs, and six walks. Brown also struck out three. Brooke Tate got the save as she pitched 1.2 innings in relief. Tate allowed three hits, gave up one run, and walked two batters.
