MONTICELLO, Ark. – No. 23-ranked Arkansas-Monticello outscored SWOSU 30-9 over the final nine minutes of the first half and handed the Bulldogs a 101-70 defeat on Saturday at Steelman Field House in Monticello.
SWOSU kept things close in the early going, leading on three occasions before UAM took the lead in the middle of the first half. The Dawgs trailed 24-18 with just under nine minutes to play, but the Weevils flexed their muscles during that final stretch by outscoring SWOSU 30-9 and doubling up the Bulldogs, 54-27, at halftime.
The Bulldogs continued to compete after the break, scoring 43 points while shooting 38.9% (14-36) after the break but it was not nearly enough on Saturday afternoon.
Reshardd Harris paced the Bulldogs with 14 points off the bench while Rashon Thomas added a career-high 13 points to help SWOSU's bench outscore UAM's 45-38.
"We just never really got tuned in today," SWOSU Head Coach Bob Battisti said after the game. "We made so many defensive mental mistakes and that caused the game to get away from us late in the first half. We've got three weeks and eight games left, we're going to get regrouped and finish the season strong."
SWOSU (5-15, 2-12 GAC) returns to action on Thursday evening in Bethany, Okla., against Southern Nazarene.
