Enid man dies in Alfalfa County collision

An Enid man died in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday night in Alfalfa County. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Rance Lee McKee, 60, of Enid had massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Alfalfa County EMS.

The wreck occurred at 11:10 p.m. Dec. 27 at the intersection of State Highway 45 and a county road one mile west of Goltry. The OHP report says Billy Leroy Cook, 41, of Jet was driving a 2008 Dodge pickup south on the county road and failed to yield at the stop sign at the intersection of State Highway 45. McKee was westbound on State Highway 45 in a 2004 Nissan Titan pickup that was struck in the driver’s side door.

Both Cook and a passenger, Michael Edward James, 47, of Jet, were injured and were taken to Bass Hospital in Enid by Alfalfa County EMS. Cook was treated for a head injury and released. James was treated for internal trunk injuries and released.

The condition of both drivers is still under investigation. The cause of the collision was listed as failure to stop for a stop sign. The OHP report says none of those involved were wearing seatbelts.

Trooper Justin Barney investigated, assisted by troopers Seth Wallace, Jason Burch and Lisa Jorgenson. Also helping at the scene were the Alfalfa County Sheriff’s Office, Alfalfa County EMS, Goltry Fire Department and Helena Fire Department.
