K9 alerts to drugs in apartment

Residents at the Northwest Domestic Crisis Center sign a form giving consent to search when they move into the apartments in Alva. According to court records, on Nov. 17 about 4:30 p.m. Karen Andrews, the manager, contacted the Alva Police Department to request a search.

When Assistant Police Chief Ben Orcutt and K9 Officer Patrick Hawley arrived, Andrews took them to an apartment where the door knock was answered by Felicia Ducummon. Andrews explained why they were there, and Ducummon gave permission to take K9 Duke inside.

Officer Hawley observed that K9 Duke alerted multiple times inside the apartment bedroom. He told the others what he had seen and again checked with Ducummon about consent to search. She agreed that she had signed the consent and it was still okay to search her apartment.

During the search Assistant Chief Orcutt found and seized a green pill bottle containing a jeweler baggie with a white crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Also seized were two cellphones.

Officer Sean Farris arrived to assist. Hawley told Ducummon she was under arrest for possession, and Farris transported her to the Woods County Jail for booking.

Felicia Kathleen Ducummon, 40, of Alva has been charged with felony possession of controlled dangerous substance (meth), subsequent offense. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of not more than $5,000.
