An Arnett man was arrested in Waynoka for interfering with an arrest. Stetson Wyatt Brawner, 19, of Arnett has been charged with a misdemeanor of obstructing an officer.
According to court documents, on Oct. 21 at 5:15 p.m. Woods County Deputy Adam Honeyman responded to a call for assistance from Waynoka Police Officer Misty Williams. The officer was at Broadway and Birch streets in reference to a possible fugitive hiding from law enforcement inside a residence with possible narcotics activity.
When Honeyman arrived he saw that Officer Williams had a woman in handcuffs standing outside of the residence near her vehicle. He saw a man, Brawner, in close proximity to the officer. Honeyman described Brawner as being in Williams face and personal area taking pictures and/or video with his cellphone. Williams had already told Brawner to step back.
Honeyman approached and told Brawner to step away from Officer Williams. He asked for a name, and Brawner said “I do not have to tell you.” On a second request for ID, Brawner again refused. Knowing Williams had already confirmed warrants on the woman she was arresting, Honeyman told Brawner he had a legal reason to be talking to him based on his actions and his unwillingness to step away.
When Brawner again refused to provide his name and date of birth, Honeyman placed him in handcuffs explaining he was not being placed under arrest but was being detained for officer safety. Honeyman noticed a strong odor of marijuana about Brawner’s person and that he had bloodshot eyes, elevated taste buds and body tremors.
Honeyman placed Brawner under arrest for obstruction of justice and took him to the Woods County Jail.
