RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (Oct. 12, 2016)– Joby Gray has been the named the latest Great American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week after finishing tied for first overall in the Central Regional Preview held on this past Monday and Tuesday.
Gray shot a 70 (-1) and 72 (+1) in the first day of the tournament, heading into the clubhouse with an overall score of 142 (E) that tied him for first on the day with Central Oklahoma's Eli Armstrong. On Tuesday, the senior played another consistent round carding a 70 (-1) in the final round to put him at 212 (-1) through all rounds of the tournament. His shot total after the second round again tied him for the lead with UCO's Armstrong for the tournament. Gray's performance helped lead the Bulldogs to a second-place finish, tying with GAC foe Arkansas Tech and four shots behind tournament-winner Central Missouri.
The first place finish is his best individual placing this season and his only first-place showing. It's also the senior's second top-ten placing of the fall. This is the first time a Bulldog has won the GAC's weekly honor this season, and the first such honor of Gray's two-year career at SWOSU.
The Central Regional Preview was the Bulldogs final event of the fall. SWOSU ended the final three tournaments with second-place finishes, after a below average start of the season in Nebraska at the UNK Invitational where they placed ninth. After being selected as the GAC preseason favorite, the Bulldogs look to improve in the offseason before hitting the course for the spring portion of their season.
