Soccer Beats Ouachita to Remain Perfect in Conference Play

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (Sept. 30, 2016) – SWOSU Soccer remained perfect in Great American Conference play with their 2-1 victory over Ouachita Baptist Thursday afternoon. Sandra Nabweteme scored both goals for the Bulldogs playing in all 90 minutes of game time.

The first half was controlled by the Bulldog attack, outshooting OBU 13-4. Of those 13 shots taken, the Bulldogs put five on them goal forcing the reigning GAC Goalkeeper of the Week, Erin Webster, to make four saves. Despite taking 13 shots in the half, SWOSU only managed to score one goal in the match's first 45 minutes. The lone goal came in the 31st minute when Ashlyn Collier passed to Nabweteme in the box, and the freshman kicked it home to go up 1-0.

The Tigers tied it up early in the second half when Bryson Thomas shot and scored the equalizing goal in the 49th minute. Nabweteme answered that goal 19 minutes later with her second goal of the match, putting SWOSU back in lead 2-1 in the 68th minute. The score would hold the rest of the game and the Bulldogs left Arkadelphia with a win.

Nabweteme netted her 11th and 12th goals of the season, tying the previous school record for goals in a season. That mark has already been surpassed by her teammate, Alimata Rabo, who leads the team with 15 goals on the year. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Flores and the Bulldog defense conceded one goal in the match, and allowed 11 shots to be taken, six of those on goal.

With the win, SWOSU improves to (6-1-1, 3-0 GAC) and will have another pivotal conference match against Harding on Saturday (Oct. 1) for sole possession of first place.
