Alva man charged with child desertion

A local woman contacted the Woods County Sheriff’s Office to report her boyfriend had abandoned his biological child with her. According to court records, on Sept. 27 about 3 p.m. Vonda Kenmore told Woods County Deputy Sheriff Adam Honeyman she and Curtis James Shramek had been in a dating relationship for several months. She said Shramek has legal custody of his seven-year-old biological child due to the biological mother being incarcerated.

Kenmore said Shramek abandoned her and the minor child on Friday, Sept. 23, in the early morning hours. He made no arrangements for the care of the child nor did he make any arrangements with Kenmore regarding the care of the child.

Kenmore told Honeyman she had no way of contacting Shramek but believed he was possibly in the Enid area. She said on more than one occasion she arrived at their house to find Shramek in an intoxicated state when he was the sole provider for the child.

Kenmore also contacted Deputy Honeyman on Friday, Sept. 23, in reference to illegal narcotics she located accidentally in Shramek’s paint bag. Honeyman retrieved two small clear plastic baggies containing pills. Inside one baggie were 22 small yellow round pills which were identified as clonazepam, a schedule IV drug. In the other baggie were 10 small white pills identified as lorazepam, a schedule IV drug.

Honeyman found that Shramek has a lengthy criminal history including felony arrests and convictions. He has arrests for grand larceny, possession of burglar’s implements, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, second degree burglary, possession of stolen copper and bogus checks.

James Curtis Shramek, 38, of Alva has been charged with felony desertion of a child under 15. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. The crime is punishable by imprisonment in the state penitentiary for one to ten years and up to $10,000 fine.
