MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP, posted Sept. 20, 2016) — Law enforcement officials are warning that people involved in a rash of creepy clown hoaxes across the state could be prosecuted.
Decatur police said Tuesday that a 16-year-old and 12-year-old were arrested in connection with "Klown" social media accounts that made threats against area schools.
Police said there was no valid threat of danger; the messages were an attempt to disrupt school activities and spread fear through the community.
The Montgomery Advertiser reported that Montgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley said Monday that the person or people who made clown-related threats against Montgomery public schools will be prosecuted if caught.
Police in Troy said they had identified two Charles Henderson High School students as the culprits who donned menacing clown masks and said they were coming for residents of the city.
