A collision with a deer sent a Blackwell man to the hospital Monday. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports Brant Vernon Marcotte, 62, of Blackwell was transported by Alva EMS to Share Medical Center in Alva. He was then transferred to St. Mary’s Regional Hospital in Enid where he was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal injuries. Each year, the OSU Extension Service and the Woods County commissioners sign a contract for services. The cost to the county is $64,240 per year and that represents 1.6 staff members. It used to be 2.0 staff members, but one is now being shared with Alfalfa County. The cost was not a surprise as the commissioners had seen the dollar figures earlier in the annual Estimate of Needs. Area firefighters responded to a mutual aid request from the Freedom Fire Department Monday evening. Grass fires were sparked to the north of US-64 highway to the east of Camp Houston.
