Fall has arrived. The cold is coming and the leaves are starting to turn. Soon we will all be raking the yards. Fall brings a lot of different experiences, football, hayrides and, of course, pumpkin spice on everything. Soon Thanksgiving will be coming. Time certainly moves quickly. Enjoy each moment while you can. One thing that fall brings is Halloween. Scares and candy. I tend to like the candy more than the scares. We all enjoy playing pranks and scaring our kids. I did a lot of that when...

One would think that ministers should be among the most optimistic folks on the planet. However, from time to time, we suffer from the same disappointments and misgivings as everyone else. In the process of our ministries, we often have the chance to challenge our friends and fellow Christians to live out their faith in an active, unwavering manner. Unfortunately, no amount of wooing, begging and badgering will ever move some of God’s people off high center. On those occasions, our optimism is bound to take a bashing. BUT THIS IS NOT ONE OF T...

“Ebola (virus) reminds us again that a health crisis anywhere is a health crisis everywhere.” – Sue Desmond, CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The war on worldwide poverty and famine is brought to our attention less than the exodus of refugees from war-torn regions, but it pales in comparison to the concentration of the Earth’s remaining poor in sub-Saharan Africa. The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nigeria are destined to be home to 86 percent of the world’s extremely poor by...
As we noted last week, ten amendments were added to the U.S. Constitution in 1791. These additional provisions put limits on what the national government could do. For example, the first amendment prohibited the government from establishing a national religion like England had. Over the years we have amended the Constitution 17 more times. Two of those amendments canceled each other out. The 18th made alcoholic beverages illegal and the 21st made them legal again. Consequently, we have made...

Running the point for Oklahoma this season will likely be a mix that includes Aaron Calixte, a graduate transfer who scored 1,125 points for Maine; Miles Reynolds, who averaged 13.3 points per game for Pacific last season; and freshman Jamal Bieniemy, a...
