  • Baseball

    Arden Chaffee|Oct 25, 2019

As I listen to the World Series, Nationals vs. Astros, with the score tied, I think back to the excitement generated in those contests I remember as a youth. The games took place during school hours so we would huddle around our black-and-white set in the student center at Alva High School at noon and at every break. Do I remember the years, teams, players? No, but I always chose a team to support because it’s more interesting if you have a “dog in the fight.” Some speculate that baseball origi...

  • Random Thoughts Mr. President! Mr. President!

    Roger Hardaway|Oct 25, 2019

Have you ever noticed that when people ask the president of the United States a question or greet him, they always refer to him as “Mr. President?” There is actually a story as to how the president came to be called that. It goes back to the beginnings of our country’s history. Many people in the American colonies had disliked having a king at the head of the British government. So when it came time to create the United States, they opted not to have a monarch. When George Washington becam...

  • Spiritually Speaking Conflict and context in first-century christology – and Knedler on being concise

    Dr. W. Jay Tyree|Oct 25, 2019

Many of you remember Dr. Mike Knedler. He was a great asset to NWOSU for more than three decades. He then lost his mind and moved to Edmond. There’s just no telling what some people will do. During his tenure as head of the humanities department, Dr. Knedler had the joy-filled responsibility of guiding me into greater usefulness in my role as an adjunct (a role now handled with equal style and grace by Dr. James Bell). On one occasion, I asked Dr. Knedler if I could teach an “off-catalog” cours...

  • Made a public spectacle

    Rev. Brady Marston|Oct 25, 2019

Colossians 2:9-15 Today, I’m going to get a bit deep, but I trust you to follow along as you are very smart (this is an ancient rhetorical device we call shamelessly flattering the reader). I want to talk a bit about one of the pillars of Christian doctrine: atonement. On its face it’s a very simple concept, but it has sparked much debate and controversy when it comes to deeper understandings. Atonement is what Jesus did so that we can be saved. Mitchell's all-around performance Wednesday night led the Utah Jazz to a 100-95 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the season opener for both teams. Prosecutors say Balkman did "due diligence" i...
