  • 'I'll take care of it'

Rev. Drew Kirtley, First Christian Church|Sep 29, 2023

If you want something done right, just do it yourself. That’s how the saying goes. But sometimes I hear people say that phrase when they mean something else entirely. Sometimes what they actually mean is that if you want something done quickly, then just do it yourself. Sometimes what they mean is if you don’t want to go through the hassle of explaining or teaching someone else how to do it, then just do it yourself. Sometimes it’s a matter of convenience. Sometimes it’s a matter of priorit...

  • The end is near!

Steve Hamm, College Hill Church of Christ|Sep 29, 2023

The end is near, so says the sign that the man is wearing in several movies we have seen. Well, it’s really true, the end is near and we, the body of Christ, are warned of the end so we will be ready! I Peter 4:7 says, “The end of all things is near. Therefore, be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.” The book of Revelation is a very powerful book written by the apostle John. God inspired him to write it in such a way that every generation since the last days believe that the Lord Jesus will return during their lifetime. We might...

  • Mental peaks

    Arden Chaffee|Sep 29, 2023

Most Americans have concerns about our aging politicians, thinking that high-stress jobs require quick-thinking leadership. As a septuagenarian myself, I agree with their concerns. Experts say that creativity peaks in youth, and (according to an article in the Wall Street Journal by Clare Ansberry) there are two patterns of thinking: one is conceptual and abstract, while the other is experimental, based on accumulated knowledge. Which pattern of thinking would benefit the skills in question?...

  • • We live in a great place

    Doug Little|Sep 29, 2023

I brag about where I live to lots of people. I tell people who will listen and a lot who just don’t listen at all, how great of a place we live in. Not just a town or a community, but a part of a state or in our case, part of the tristate region. This past week we saw once again that there aren’t any better people anywhere than we have here. This past week, Laverne lost a student in a tragic vehicle accident. The fourth-grader’s funeral was Saturday. There are places where you don’t know who your neighbor is. Out here you know most everyon...

The advantage of the turf is allowing games to be played after rain. This was the second round of bids. All the members of the board were present along with Parks and Recreation Director Courtney Nesseralla, Mayor Kelly P... Full story

But other global crises — among them the war in Ukraine, conflict in Sudan, Morocco's ear...

    KEVIN FREKING and STEPHEN GROVES|Sep 29, 2023

WASHINGTON (AP) — A government shutdown appeared all but inevitable as House Speaker Kevin McCarthy dug in Thursday, vowing he will not take up Senate legislation designed to keep the federal government fully running despite House Republicans' struggle to unite around an alternative.
