A young woman from North Dakota was injured after being ejected from her vehicle as it rolled three times. The one-vehicle wreck occurred Monday just north of Freedom in Woods County. Kinzie Burnham, 19, of Bismarck, North Dakota, was transported by Air-Evac to St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. A man in jail awaiting trial on 12 felony sex charges now has two more felony charges. Lance Keith Shahan, 20, of Alva has been in jail in Alfalfa County since the 12 felony charges were filed in January. Those felonies involved a 12-year-old girl. In February and March a couple of misdemeanor charges for possession of contraband in a county jail were added. A Cherokee man wound up with drug charges after his girlfriend asked law enforcement to remove illegal drugs from a residence and vehicle. According to court documents, the woman told OBN Agent Brandon Powell that she had been a user but was trying to quit. She said she didn’t want to be around her boyfriend as long as he was using and she just wanted him to get help. At 7:25 p.m. a week ago Tuesday, two Kiowa teens who are friends were taking a ride in a UTV two nights before school was starting. They were southbound on Eighth Street. Desiree Doherty was driving the UTV and attempted to make a left turn onto Rumsey Street. The KHP report said Doherty lost control and rolled the vehicle. What started as a motorcycle fun run to raise money to buy toys for children at Christmas turned into a sad time for two of the riders. The group started in Alva on Saturday morning.
