As the Ukraine war ramped up, our president and government started sending millions of dollars and war materials against most people's wishes. Suddenly abortion and Roe vs Wade becomes front page news everywhere, focusing our attention away from the war in the Ukraine and our real involvement. I bet it would be scary to know what they have really done behind our backs, while we are distracted. Let me assure you I am not belittling the abortion dilemma. The timing just seems a bit strange. I hope...
At this point in the legislative session, we still have a lot to do and not a lot of time left. Oklahoma’s Constitution says we must adjourn the legislative session by 5 p.m. on the last Friday in May. This year, the last Friday in May is the 27th, so we only have a couple of weeks to conclude our work. The most important job for the Legislature is to write and pass a balanced budget. While that may not sound as interesting as some of the bills we debate and vote on, ultimately, the budget impacts every single person in our state. Whether w...

It's a fine day. The little girl loads her bicycle basket with supplies. First is a stack of paper, then a jelly jar filled with water and finally her Prang watercolor set. She's ready to set off for the nearby lake to fill all that white paper with images of the beauty she sees everywhere. This is how Jill Webber began her artistic career. "I was very young, and I had an intense interest in leaves and trees, rocks, lake water, the woods, the forest," she said. "I grew up in a very small town,...

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The 18-year-old gunman who authorities say killed 10 people at a Buffalo supermarket had previously threatened a shooting at his high school and was sent for mental health treatment. A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that Payton Gendron had appeared on the radar of police last year after he threatened to carry out a shooting around the time of graduation. Officials also say the gunman had researched the local demographics and arrived in the area a day in advance to conduct reconnaissance with the "express...
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Almost three months after Russia shocked the world by invading Ukraine, its military faces a bogged-down war, the prospect of a bigger NATO and an opponent buoyed Sunday by wins on and off the battlefield. Top diplomats from NATO met in Berlin with the alliance's chief and declared that the war "is not going as Moscow had planned." "Ukraine can win this war," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said, adding that the alliance must continue to offer military support to Kyiv. He spoke by video link to the meeting as he r...
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden signed an order Monday to redeploy hundreds of U.S. troops to Somalia to counter the Islamic extremist rebel group al-Shabab, an effort that American military leaders said had been hampered by President Donald Trump's late-term decision to withdraw forces from the country. U.S. troops will be repositioned from elsewhere in Africa to train and provide other support to Somali forces in their fight against al-Shabab, which is considered the largest and wealthiest affiliate of the al-Qaida extremist o...

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The white gunman accused of massacring 10 Black people in a racist rampage at a Buffalo supermarket planned to keep on killing if he had escaped the scene, the police commissioner said Monday, as the possibility of federal hate crime or domestic terror charges loomed. The gunman, who had crossed the state to target people at the Tops Friendly Market, had talked about shooting up another store as well, Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia told CNN. "He was going to get in his car and continue to drive down J...
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court's conservative majority sided Monday with Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and struck down a provision of federal campaign finance law, a ruling that a dissenting justice said runs the risk of causing "further disrepute" to American politics. The court, by a 6-3 vote, said the provision Cruz challenged limiting the repayment of personal loans from candidates to their campaigns violates the Constitution. The decision comes just as campaigning for the 2022 midterm elections is intensifying. Chief Justice John...
