  • A person of faith

Steve Hamm, College Hill Church of Christ|Apr 28, 2023

Our Sunday morning Bible class has been studying the book of Hebrews in the New Testament for some time now. I want to encourage the reader to read this powerful book as it lays out the ministry of Jesus, showing he is greater than the angels, Moses, the Mediator and giver of the Law, and even Melchizedek, a spiritual priest of God most High! Near the end of the book in Chapter 11, it teaches about faith, and gives many powerful examples of that faith! Chapter 11 lists some great names of the Old Testament that we all know like Noah, Abraham,...

  • A roller coaster faith

Rev. Drew Kirtley, First Christian Church|Apr 28, 2023

I want to share just a bit of my own experience dealing with a piece of worldwide news, one that seemed to impact everyone in their own way some time ago. That news being the tragic deaths of nine people in a helicopter crash, which included former NBA player Kobe Bryant. I consider myself a casual basketball fan. I watch the NBA enough to know the more popular players, but probably not enough to consider myself knowledgeable about the rest of the league. But I knew who Kobe Bryant was, and...

  • Someone needs you

Jerome Thomas, Oklahoma State Ombudsman Supervisor for NW Oklahoma|Apr 28, 2023

Ombudsman: Yes, it is a strange sounding word, Scandinavian in origin, but it simply means advocate. A Long-Term Care Ombudsman is a person who volunteers to be there to help that “someone” living in a nursing home, or other long term care facility. It is a very special role. It has been estimated that 65% of nursing home residents never receive a visitor. There can be many reasons for this, but regardless of the reason the simple act of visiting with that “someone” who needs you is a gift so easily given, and so deeply appreciated. Yes, th...

  • The right words

    Arden Chaffee|Apr 28, 2023

“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” John F. Kennedy. Finding the right words for each situation is really a challenge. Research has shown that just one word can make a huge difference. In the Wall Street Journal, in an article by Jonah Berger, he says,“Saying you ‘recommend’ rather than ‘like’ something makes people 32% more likely to take your advice.” He asks, “Are there ‘magic’ words and how can we use them?” With all the anger present in our soci...

  • Ramblings of a redneck farmer

    Doug Little|Apr 28, 2023

There are many different definitions of grace in the dictionary. Webster's best defines grace as approval or favor. So, when you take that definition and apply it to the grace that God rains down on us when we believers put our faith in him, it defies comprehension doesn't? I can’t seem to understand it, not in its totality, but I get the fact that whatever you have done, wherever you go, when you take that step back towards him, his grace is enough to cover your indiscretions. Not that there won’t be judgment, because we will be judged, but...

  • Call it amazing, part 6

    Roger Hardaway|Apr 28, 2023

The Sunday, October 25, 1964, issue of the “New York Times Book Review” featured a glowing critique of Henry Roth’s lost novel “Call It Sleep” on its cover. This was the first time that the editors of that influential journal had given such a coveted placement to a novel that had been published years earlier and – equally rare – to the paperback edition of a book rather than a hardcover version. The results were astonishing! Bookstores began selling copies of the book as fast as the publisher...
