  • Exciting changes with the passing of school bond

    Dylan Hurst|Apr 15, 2022

Burlington recently passed a school bond for 10.485 million big ones. Our school has been trying to pass this for a few years and I feel that it is something the school, community, and students need. Covid had a big impact on how the students felt about school. I know, for me, it made it easy to forget and not worry about academics. I feel this bond is going to be beneficial for new students and students who have been here for a long time. We all lose encouragement and what is more enticing and exciting than your boring old school finally...

  • Celebrating our salvation

    Rev. Louis C. Garcia III|Apr 15, 2022

“I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43 NLT) are the words that Jesus said to the criminal who was next to him hanging on the cross. While bleeding to death and suffocating on the cross, Jesus took the time to assure the criminal that he will be with Him in Heaven. The criminal acknowledged he is a sinner and that Jesus is Lord. This very moment was the reason why Jesus came to Earth. He came to be the perfect sacrifice so everyone who believes in Him can have eternal life. Today we celebrate Good Friday, and take tim...

  • Let's study the Bible

Kim Barker, College Hill Church of Christ|Apr 15, 2022

Baptism is a word that is often misunderstood. The word as used in the New Testament refers to immersion. The original word, instead of being translated as immersion, was transliterated from baptizo to baptism. Today sprinkling or pouring water over are often substituted for New Testament baptism. We have seen from studying Bible history that God wants His people to be obedient to His commands. Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist is recorded in Matthew 3:13-17. Jesus said “it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness” by being bapti...

  • Dreams

    Arden Chaffee|Apr 15, 2022

The mind is an amazing thing. It starts to work first thing in the morning and doesn’t stop working until the teacher calls on you in class. A question posed in Smithsonian Magazine piqued my interest: “How do birds stay balanced up on tree branches while they’re asleep?” The answer, according to Smithsonian, is that birds can let one side of their brains sleep while the other side remains awake. I think dreaming is a version of that. Even if you can’t remember, scientists say that it is unlike...

  • Random Thoughts

    Roger Hardaway|Apr 15, 2022

Jimmie Davis entered politics in Louisiana for the first time in the late 1930s. In 1938 he won election to a four-year term as a Shreveport city commissioner. In 1942, he was elected to the Louisiana Public Service Commission. The next step up for Davis was to run for governor, which he did in 1944. Davis emerged victorious in a crowded Democratic primary. In those days, Louisiana – like most southern states – did not have a competitive Republican party so that becoming the Democratic nom...

    NWOSU Sports|Apr 15, 2022

ALVA, Okla. – Sierra Schott and Starz are getting to know one another a little bit better. The two – a barrel racer at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and her 9-year-old bay mare – just teamed this past October, and it's taken some time for the tandem to gel. They proved it is happening this past weekend at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University rodeo in Weatherford. "I was just going out there to have fun," said Schott, who rounded the cloverleaf pattern in 17.13 seconds to finis...

    WILL GRAVES|Apr 15, 2022

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — This is why Sunisa Lee kept her promise and came to Auburn. And why Trinity Thomas endured at Florida. To compete on the podium with their sport stopping to watch. Lee, the first Olympic champion to compete collegiately, helped send Auburn to the finals for just the second time since 1993 as the Tigers finished second to F...
