In the article titled “Alva mayor candidates expand on comments at recent forum” in the Friday, March 24, Alva Review-Courier a comment from the audience was attributed to Ward 4 Councilmember Daniel Winters. However, Daniel Winters was not present at the meeting, and he represents Ward 1. The comment was actually made by Brandon Sherman who is a former councilmember. The comment itself that the use of ARPA funds is restricted is correct. We regret the misidentification....

  • Don't live there, just visit once

    Andy and Renie Bowman|Mar 26, 2023

Most people have a bad habit. Nah, I don’t want to hear about your overeating, cigarette smoking, drug taking, lying, stealing, cheating, or tantrum-throwing lifestyle. Moronic as those things are, everyone has another even more idiotic talent that we indulge. Yep, most of us do stupid, and unfortunately we do it a lot. We take a perfectly fine day, whether it is sunny and bright, or raining cats and dogs, and we knowingly attempt to destroy it. Or even better, we wait until bedtime, when we n...

  • Murdock's Minutes

    Sen. Casey Murdock|Mar 26, 2023

This past week, we hit our deadline for floor votes on bills that were introduced by members of the Senate. One of my own bills was taken up and passed unanimously Monday, Senate Bill 976, creating the Invasive Species Task Force. Invasive species are exactly what they sound like – a species that is either imported from another part of the U.S. or even another country, but because they are non-native, they can do tremendous damage to our local habitats, whether they are in our lakes, creeks or rivers, our forests, prairies, or farmland. The p...

Tuesday, March 28, at the Northwest Technology Center, the Democrat Party is hosting a meet and greet at 6 p.m. Much like a true politician, I have my campaign promises ready. Or maybe I should just challenge my opponent to a joke telling session. All kidding aside, the city marshal, other than spreading good will, doesn't make any big changes in Alva. You need to come out and listen to the city council candidates, because they do affect the future of our city. Has anyone heard about what we wil...

Zyskowicz told Finnish media that a large man who appeared to be between the ages of 30 and 40 confronted him at a metro station in Helsinki, the capital city that h...

  • Book thief in plot that duped famous authors avoids prison

    MALLIKA SEN|Mar 26, 2023

NEW YORK (AP) — It was the stuff of novels: For years, a con artist plagued the publishing industry, impersonating editors and agents to pull off hundreds of literary heists. But the manuscripts obtained from high-profile authors were never resold or leaked, rendering the thefts all the more perplexing. The Thursday sentencing of Filippo Bernardini in Manhattan federal court brought the saga to an end and, with it, finally some answers. After pleading guilty to one count of wire fraud in January, Bernardini was sentenced to time served, a...
