    The Northwest Oklahoma Complex wildfires, composed of four fire areas in Beaver, Harper and Woodward counties, is now considered to be 74 percent contained, according to the Oklahoma Forestry Service. The fires began on Monday, March 6. The Selman Fire (Harper and Woodward Counties) is the area closest to Freedom. It is about ten miles from Woodward. That fire area covered 47,289 acres. The Starbuck Fire (Beaver and Harper Counties) is the largest fire area in northwest Oklahoma including 662,687 acres total with 464,308 acres in Kansas and...

    Freedom school district residents will have to wait awhile to decide officially who will sit in seat number 2. Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin signed an order March 7 to hold the special school election on September 12. Following the Feb. 14 election, District Judge Justin Eilers determined that the number of ineligible voters exceeded the margin of victory.     Before the latest wildfire broke out last week, the Freedom Town Board had scheduled an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss trash pickup rates. The meeting was canceled because of the fires, so the topic was added as a regular agenda item for the Wednesday, May 8, meeting. Last month, the city signed a new agreement with Harper Sanitation to pick up Freedom's trash.     OKLAHOMA CITY — OG&E is gearing up for severe storm season 2017 with plans to use drones and advanced planning to expedite storm assessment and restoration times. “We used drones for the first time to assess damage in the Woodward area following Winter Storm Jupiter in January,” said Kathleen O’Shea, OG&E spokeswoman. “In the past, we’ve used helicopters, and we’ll still use them as necessary, however, drones can be deployed faster than helicopters in most scenarios.
