  • Changes in the Church

Brady Marston, Alva Church of the Nazarene|Mar 8, 2019

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." – Matthew 9:35-38 (NIV) What follows is something I...

  • Spiritually Speaking

    W. Jay Tyree, College Hill Church of Christ|Mar 8, 2019

We’re currently preparing for the third installment of a short series on “Love,” to be presented at College Hill Church of Christ next Sunday. As it turns out, the apostle Paul (whom I am plagiarizing heavily) had more to say about what love is NOT than about what it is. Perhaps the congregation at Corinth was suffering through some of the same misunderstandings as their 21st century brothers and sisters. A casual reading of 1st Corinthians 13 shows a list of nine negative (love is not) maladies compared to nine positive (love is, or love...

  • New Year don'ts

    Arden Chaffee|Mar 8, 2019

New Year’s resolutions rarely take so, Kiwanis Magazine gave me some ideas on what not to do in 2019. Several I had already decided in favor of, the first of which is not leaving voice mails. I’ve discovered a text is quicker because you don’t listen to a lame “leave a message” recording and people, especially Millennials, will respond immediately. More advice: don’t ignore pain. Pain comes with aging but it may mean something is wrong, such as a sudden severe headache, chest pain, swelling an...

  • Random Thoughts

    Roger Hardaway|Mar 8, 2019

Having won the election of 1920, Republicans Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge assumed office as president and vice president on March 4, 1921. Among the Cabinet members President Harding appointed was mining engineer Herbert Hoover as Secretary of Commerce. These three men would serve as presidents from 1921 to 1933 – an era of staunch conservatism in American history. Harding died in August 1923 to be succeeded by Coolidge. After finishing Harding’s term, Coolidge was elected to his own...
