As we continue to study the beatitudes in Matthew Chapter 5, we turn to verse 6, which says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Now when we say that we’re hungry or thirsty in everyday life, that could mean various levels of hunger or thirsting. In our natural bodies, the feelings of hunger and thirst grow slowly from just beginning to feel that way, to a full-blown pain of either or both. What that means is that when the feeling of either hunger or thirst starts out, it’s just noticea...

“You say it’s your birthday. It’s my birthday too. Yeah, they say it’s your birthday; we’re gonna have a good time, I’m glad it’s your birthday! Happy Birthday to you!” –The Beatles, 1968 “Happy Birthday” is a greeting we look forward to, validation God had given us another year, a wish for the future, and the privilege to grow older, something many have not had. Keeping track of time is not a purely human thing. All of nature is aware of the passing of a year: geese migrate, bears hibern...
If you are in the habit of consulting only yourself, trusting your own instincts and believing that you will know in your heart what to do when the time comes, then you have a big problem. In Proverbs 28:26, the Bible says, “He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.” Translated into plain 2024 English? “You can’t trust your heart to always tell you the truth. It lies.” So, if we can’t believe in our self completely, then when it is time to make...
I was home most of last week with the flu, and I watched a lot of television in an attempt to get my mind off of how bad I felt. While channel-surfing, I happened to come across an old movie that really made me stop and think. It was about a World War I fighter ace – near the end of the war – when they first started using airplanes as weapons. It had been a while since I had thought much about early-day airplanes. They were made of wood and fabric and were controlled by exposed wires. Cal...
Around this time of year, I relate this story. Sorry if you have heard it before, but you will hear it again next year as well. God is so good! Feb. 15, 2021, a day I will never forget. Now, almost three years later, that is the day that changed my life and set me on a course of re-dedication towards Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. It is amazing to look back and see the dramatic change in me since that date. However, on Feb. 15, 2021, I was sure my life, as I knew it, was over. Since 2005 I had battled back issues. I had battled back issues...
As we have seen, Georgia Tech defeated Cumberland College in a 1916 football game that ended with the score of 222-0 with Cumberland being on the losing end of the contest. An interesting footnote to the game has to do with the student chosen by the Cumberland administration to put together a team and fulfill a contract that Georgia Tech refused to ignore. His name was George Allen, and he was from Boonville, Mississippi. He was extremely outgoing and had a great sense of humor. He was a good sp...
Assuming the voters remain stupid and Biden and Trump are the nominees, they will travel the country debating each other. It will be called the "Antiques Roadshow." There is an old Beach Boys song with the line "We'll have fun-fun-fun till daddy takes the T-Bird away" The Vegas version of that song is "we'll have fun-fun-fun till the bank takes the debit card away." They haven't called, so I must be doing OK. We had a good trip out. We came by the train derailment at Hazleton on the way up...
