For more than a quarter century, Richard Aldridge of Manchester has faithfully delivered the United States mail. After 26 years as a rural carrier, on Tuesday, Jan. 31, he retired. The Alva Board of Education voted to hire Rick Scott Construction Inc. of Ponca City to complete the work on the Indoor Practice Facility – Phase II at a cost of $544,900 minus a removed alternate of carpeting and floor finishing of $18,857. A fatal one-vehicle wreck claimed the life of a former Waynoka resident Sunday morning. Layne Michael Meriwether, 23, of Stillwater was pronounced dead at the scene with head, leg and trunk internal injuries, according to the highway patrol report.
