  • Overcoming life's problems

    Cooper Rockenbach|Jan 27, 2023

I still remember the day it happened, the panic in my mom's voice, the sound of the sirens getting louder by the second, and waking up the next day with my family in the room with me. It was that day that I learned my life would change forever at the age of 11. I was diagnosed with epilepsy. Not only does having unexpected seizures worry you and your family, it impacts your independence. I have almost always been independent. Now, I'm a senior in high school and can't get my drivers' license....

  • What's next?

    Ky Smith|Jan 27, 2023

Looking into the future, sometimes you don’t know where you’re going. As a senior in high school, this is one of those times when you don’t know where the road goes. All students go a different route after high school. Going to college is an excellent way to get a higher education. Trade or technical schools are a perfect option too. I plan to go where I know people and stay close to home. I want to stay close to home to help my family on our farm. I am glad most of my friends are going to college with me, so I will still get to hang out with...

  • Ask, seek, knock

Rev. Katie Hill, Pastor at First United Methodist Church|Jan 27, 2023

Jesus’ life was steeped in prayer. He often withdrew from the crowds and even the disciples in order to pray. As a rabbi, he would have led his band of followers in regular prayers throughout the day – morning, noon and night. One day, as he finished a time of prayer, the disciples came to him and asked, “Lord, teach us to pray.” They wanted their lives to be steeped in and shaped by the prayer life of their teacher. And he gave to them what we now call The Lord’s Prayer. It became for them a daily prayer and a model for all their own praye...

  • Shine your light on me!

Minister Steve Hamm, College Hill Church of Christ|Jan 27, 2023

Imagine the snow falling over the landscape, floating effortlessly as huge flakes make their way to the barren ground. Mother Nature has deposited a dreadful cold this time of the year that makes travel outside the home or business miserable. Imagine that this scenario goes on for a few days and we begin to be chilled all the way to our bones. Our muscles begin to ache, and we try to find warmth anywhere we can, but there is no reprieve, nowhere we can go to escape this dreadful arctic weather. A fire is lit in the fireplace to keep us warm on...

  • Couples finance

    Arden Chaffee|Jan 27, 2023

An article in the Wall Street Journal on marriage and money addresses the problems that arise when a spendthrift marries a saver. Can you have the best of both worlds? Yes, it’s called budgeting. More on that later. The article says that while couples share basic values, they often differ on financial decision-making. Much of what the writer shares, Nicki and I have experienced. Tiffany Smith, a Navy chaplain, says finances top the list of problems in many of her couples-counseling sessions. C...

  • Ramblings of a Redneck Farmer

    Doug Little|Jan 27, 2023

One of the tractors we own is a Massey 275. On its good days it will put out about 64 horsepower. When it is tired, it puts out less. It doesn’t have a cab. It does have a canopy, though, that is starting to rust. It leaks a little 90 weight oil out of one of the wheel seals. It leaks hydraulic fluid in several different places. The wiring and ignition is messed up. In fact it doesn’t even have a switch anymore, so I have to jump the solenoid on the starter to get it to start. I know, not the safest but I am careful. It isn’t very big, especial...
