  • Keep praying for our country

    Clark Struebing, Capron UMC|Jan 27, 2017

As you know, our country has voted a new president into office. Whether you agree or disagree, he is the elected one to carry out and lead our country, hopefully to make our country great again. I believe this is the cry of Christians who went to prayer seeking God and asking Him to perform a great miracle in our country. Believers and unbelievers alike went to the polls and voted for who they thought was the best person for the job. I truly believe God has had His hand on this election. Christians need to continue to pray for our country and G...

  • Spiritually Speaking

    W. Jay Tyree, College Hill Church of Christ|Jan 27, 2017

To Adam He said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you ‘you must not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. Marione Martin|Jan 27, 2017

The Rialto Theatre in downtown Alva has entertained generations of local citizens. The iconic multi-story building located on the north side of the square was built in 1948 by Homer Jones. Over the years it has undergone many changes. In 1952 the screen was widened to show the new Cinemascope movies. The advent of 3D movies required significant upgrades. A concession stand was added in 1958 and the Silver Lounge, a restaurant, was built in the basement. In 1983 the theater was converted for...

  • Seafood

    Arden Chaffee|Jan 27, 2017

My New Year’s resolutions include meditation, eating more fish and no bungee jumping. All will be easy to keep, but concerns about seafood contamination continue. DDT in polar bear and mercury in tuna is as factual as climate change and more easily proven. Moderation is the key, but news of antibiotic contamination, especially from Chinese aquaculture farms, has many scientists concerned about the explosive growth of superbugs, antibiotic resistant bacteria. Regulations in this country p...

    Fred Neuman|Jan 27, 2017

I started the Alva Boys Choir over 60 years ago and I must say that this is the first time I felt like writing a letter to the editor of the Alva Review Courier. It was Helen Barrett that made me want to write when I learned she passed away. For many years and many, many publicity stories about the Alva Boys Choir, all the concerts, travels many times to Mexico, camping many times at all of the three television stations in Oklahoma City, Helen's publicity of the countless stories in the Courier of all this made such a big success of the sales...
