The Alva Fire Department responded to an early morning fire Sunday, Jan. 15. The call came in at 7:14 a.m. and firefighters arrived at 1106 Mill St. at 7:19 a.m. Alva Fire Chief Kirk Trekell said the fire was contained to the area where it started although damage was extensive with flames traveling up a wall and into the attic. He said the fire was electrical in nature. The residents had to find a new place to stay because electrical service had to be cut off. An Alva man has been charged with 12 felony counts involving sexual activity with a 12-year-old girl in Alfalfa County. The charges were filed on Monday, Jan. 9. Lance Keith Shahan, 19, of Alva has been charged with four counts of lewd molestation, four counts of first degree rape by instrumentation and four counts of first degree rape, all felonies. A Tulsa man has been charged with two felonies and three misdemeanors following an alleged attempt to bring contraband into James Crabtree Correctional Center (JCCC) at Helena.
