That seems like an offensive question, doesn’t it? It’s not meant to be, at least not in this instance. Who do you think you are? In other words, how do you visualize yourself? Or maybe while we’re still close to New Year’s Day, who do you want to be? The way we think about ourselves is complicated. Some people might be exactly who they think they are. If you asked your closest friends and family to describe you, would it match the person you project in your thoughts? Would it be someone you’re trying not to be? Maybe it is a combination of the...
Oh, it’s that time of the year again, yes, the very first of what we hope will be a fantastic one. Most of us have made plans or some kind of resolutions for the year 2024 that we are so excited to fulfill. Well, if you’re like me, sometimes those plans and resolutions start out gangbusters, but then something seems to derail those plans. I call this situation the “Blurp!” It’s like when you’re playing a paintball game. You’ve planned your strategy to outflank your opponent, you’ve snuck up on your enemy and you’re ready to give the kill shot,...

According to the Wall Street Journal, New Year’s resolutions are broken by March 1. I have been lucky to make it to Jan. 10 most years. One resolution we should all make is to be on time. According to an article by Bob Greene, being on time “Will lead you to success in life.” I was strict on punctuality until I had children: you understand if you have children. A story Bob tells is about Vince Lombardi and a clock on Lombardi Avenue in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It is continually 15 minutes fast....
This is a gripe taken from the lips of one frustrated lady who was recently overheard in a public place. “I had the family holiday dinner at my house last week, just like I have for years. My daughter was to bring most of the food – including the cranberry dish that she knows to always bring. But this year, for some unknown strange reason, she brought everything else, except the cranberries! Good grief, she KNOWS that is my favorite dish!” When the person who was listening sympathetically to th...
This probably ages me but that is okay. I went through a model car phase when I was a kid. That is probably pretty typical of a boy of 10-13 years of age. I loved Mustangs and Chevelles most. Also when I was a kid we journeyed to Dodge City almost every week to get feed and groceries. To help me pay for my model car habit, I used to pick up aluminum cans and got paid a penny a can at the grocery store, Dillon’s. They even took your word for how many cans you brought. So, between the cans that were ours and then ones I picked up, I had enough m...
With this article we will conclude our look at the women drivers who have helped make the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) the most diverse motorsports organization in the world. As we saw previously, Shirley Muldowney was for years the most successful female driver in the NHRA, collecting wins in 18 r...

Trisha Fox was optimistic when her husband, Richard Fox, appeared on the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board docket in early September. The 63-year-old prisoner, incarcerated since 1980 on a first-degree murder conviction in Caddo County, had not received a misconduct violation since 1995. Letters of support poured in from family, friends and prison ministry volunteers assuring board members he would have stable housing and employment if granted parole. “He never meant to kill anybody, but he also never denied doing it,” Trisha Fox said, add...
