    Burlington FFA attended the 69th annual Oklahoma State FFA convention from April 30 to May 1. Burlington was fortunate to have two FFA members selected for the State FFA Chorus. The members who sang in the chorus were Brenner Clark and Kayli Stewart. They began practicing on Sunday, April 28. The chorus performed throughout the convention and also at the State Capitol.     Michael Joseph Granados was born in Cottonwood, Arizona, on April 15, 2000. He is the 19-year-old son of Larry Joe and Tracy Granados. He has one sister, Savannah, who also attends Burlington High School. Michael's favorite subject is art. He enjoys drawing and learning animation in his free time.     Drake Ryan Peffly is the 18-year-old son of Dustin Peffly and Jaque Ruhl. He has 14 siblings. He was born in Enid, Oklahoma, and is currently a senior at Burlington High School. He is active in student council and currently works at the Burlington Co-op's C-store. Drake enjoys building and working on computers.   • BURLINGTON SCHOOL NEWS: Senior physics class builds hovercraft

    The seniors this year are in physics class with Mrs. Newlin. They have recently been learning about the coefficient of friction and its impact on objects. They built a hovercraft using plywood, plastic sheeting and two sheep blowers. They started by cutting a circular piece of the plywood out and wrapped the plastic sheeting around it and sealed it with tape.     Gavin Kyle McCullough is the 18-year-old son of Randy and Misty McCullough. He has three siblings, Caleb, Makayla, and Hailey. He was born in Ponca City. Gavin is a senior at Burlington this year. He is active in basketball, FFA, FCA and STUCO. He enjoys working hard, whether it is on the farm, in the agricultural mechanics shop or building robots.     Burlington has a group of 15 super second graders this year under the guidance of Mrs. Kelly Campbell. This marks her eighth year of teaching and she is very excited about it. The students are currently working hard on spelling. The kids love to play Sparkle, which is a spelling game. They each give a letter to try and spell the word correctly; if they get their letter wrong they are out of the game. This class plays very well together. They really like math and reading.     Mrs. Davis has a class of nine first graders this year. This will be her fourth year teaching and second year here at Burlington. The studeents are currently learning how to read, and about the different vowels and vowel sounds. In math, they are learning about number patterns. Some of the class's favorite subjects are math and science. The kids enjoy activities such as practicing their spelling words with piles of shaving cream to spell out words on their desks.     The Burlington 4-H held the second-annual Fall Fest on Oct. 12 at the town park. The 4-H members helped set up many fun activities such as face painting, bean bag toss, pumpkin drawing, bowling and sack races. Kids of all ages from around the community attended. Luckily, the weather allowed the rain and cold to hold off long enough for the Fall Fest to be completed.     This year Burlington Schools welcomes Dr. Stacey Croft as the new superintendent. She served as the interim superintendent for the last three months of the 2017-18 school year. Croft received her doctorate in school administration in May of 2017. She spent the past five years at Burlington as the special education teacher.     This school year Burlington has three new teachers. Garrett Bebermeyer is the new kindergarten through third-grade physical education teacher, as well as fourth through 12th grade boys' basketball coach.
