  • Annual FFA auction looks different, raises $10K

    The Burlington FFA did their annual auction a little differently this year. FFA students prepared projects to auction off on Tuesday, Feb. 15, instead of their traditional labor auction. All the same, they raised $10,000. There were 21 projects available. Nearly every FFA member made a project or made one with another member.     The Burlington robotics team is currently in the midst of a chess tournament. After winning the BEST Robotics competition in the fall, they competed at Regionals in December. They placed 8th out of 25 teams from eight states in the region. Now, during their off season, the team recently began a chess tournament using chess pieces they made with the 3D printer using resin.     "How could community service be more enjoyable?" you may ask yourself. Burlington FFA students spend an afternoon each year doing community service around town. On Aug. 24, Burlington FFA members built a new sandbox, built a dome for the playground, cleaned out the old sandbox to put new sand in, built a new sandbox digger, cleaned tables at the park, pulled weeds out of wood chips, and cleaned the show barn.     The annual FFA Christmas tree lighting and Christmas music program were combined this year. The event was held at the park in Burlington on Monday, Dec. 14. The Lions Club served chili, hot chocolate and coffee. This helped keep everyone a little bit warmer, considering the temperature was below freezing.     Due to COVID-19 restrictions, music class has been limited for students this year. High school and junior high are not able to have music class at this time.
