The 16th Annual Barber County Cattlemen’s Trade Show and Social will be held on Saturday evening, Nov. 19, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Parish Hall in Sharon, Kansas. The trade show and social hour will open at 5 p.m. with meal at 6:30 p.m. Concluding the evening will be the benefit auction to support the scholarship fund and other community service projects. The Barber County 4-H Crops Team competed at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson, Kansas, on Sept. 10. For the second year in a row the trio of Breckyn Hiltner, Jancey Goodno and Janda Goodno walked away as the Intermediate Team Champions. The Barber County 4-H Meats Judging Team competed at the Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes, Aug. 21, in Manhattan, Kansas. The Intermediate Team comprised of Boyd Banks, Callen Corr, and Keagan McMurray finished 5th place overall. They also placed (as a team) 4th in retail ID, 9th in placings, and 9th in questions. On June 21, several Barber County 4-H members made their way to Emporia, Kansas, to compete in a crops judging contest as part of the Southeast Region 4-H Youth Challenge Day. In the Senior Division, the team of Dillon Loper, Gaige Pfreinger, and Logan Johnson placed first overall. Individually, Pfreinger placed second, Johnson third and Loper sixth overall. The Midwest Invitational is hosted annually by Oklahoma State University. 4-H and FFA members from Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas competed in the contest. The Hazardous Occupation Training, more commonly known as the tractor safety course, is being offered again this year for youth who intend to operate farm machinery. If you are 14-15 years old (or 13 turning 14 this summer) and plan on driving a tractor this summer for someone other than your parent or legal guardian, you must take this course in accordance to the U.S. Department of Labor requirements.
